Termez (Alt-Termez) ist die bedeutendste antike Stadt am mittleren Oxus. Hier befanden sich in der Kuanzeit auch buddhistische Klöster (Kara-Tepe, Fajaz-Tepe):

Erst im Jahre 2001 entdeckte man ein monumentales Felsrelief namens Rag-i Bibi (unweit von Surkh Kotal). Nach Meinung der Erforscher handelt es sich um ein frühsasanidisches (!) Werk, das den iranischen Herrscher, umgeben von kuanischen Vasallen, bei der Rhinozerosjagd zeigt:
