Es gibt viele Versuche, einzelne archäologische Kulturen der Bronzezeit mit frühen Trägergruppen der indoiranischen Sprachen zu identifizieren. Dazu gehören z. B. die Andronovo-Kultur(en) (in Westsibirien) und der mittelasiatische sogenannte "Baktrisch-Margianische Archäologische Komplex (Bactria and Margiana Archaeological Complex)", kurz BMAC, von französischen Wissenschaftlern "Civilisation de l'Oxus" genannt. Auch die Indus-Kultur (Harappa-Kultur) wurde von einzelnen Forschern hier einbezogen. Alle diese Versuche sind hypothetisch und z. T. sogar unwahrscheinlich.
